Product Description

Our Primary SPAG Level 6 Pack contains 40 A4 Booklets and comes in a professional A4 storage box. Our booklets are used in thousands of Primary Schools to prepare pupils for the new spelling, punctuation and grammar tests. Unlimited photocopying of our booklets means the school can photocopy the booklets as many times as they want within the school year after year. There are four tests papers in the new spelling, punctuation and grammar test.

Paper 1 is called ‘Short Answer Questions’ and is the main test. The paper will test grammar and punctuation. This paper is 20 minutes in duration and requires pupils to answer approximately 18 questions. For some questions pupils must supply more than one answer. This is a test not only of knowledge but also of accuracy. This test is just like the Short Answers Questions test in the Levels 3-5 SPAG test but the questions are more challenging.

Paper 2 is called ‘Spelling’ and is the small test. As it’s name suggest it is a spelling test. The spelling paper consists of 15 sentences, each with a missing word. The teacher reads out the sentence and the pupil writes down the word. This test is just like the Spelling test in the Levels 3-5 SPAG test but the questions are more challenging.

Paper 3 is called ‘Extended Task’ and is added test compared to the SPAG Levels 3-5 test. This paper contains 1 extended task per test paper to assess the pupil’s ability to produce a relevant text with a variety of sentence structures, a range of punctuation marks and good use of vocabulary.

Benefits of using our Products:

1) Identify Weaknesses

Schools are using our practice tests material to enable a gap analysis to be undertaken. This helps schools identify weaknesses in their teaching and also identifies a pupil’s weak areas in spelling, grammar and punctuation and therefore the school can begin to address any problem areas immediately.

2) Test Style Practice

The subject areas tested are quite straightforward but there is quite a lot to take in on the new papers for teachers and pupils. Our papers fill the gap for much needed practice in the new testing format and enables pupils to get used to the different question styles especially the spelling and multiple-choice question types.

3) Good Value for money Resources

Unlimited photocopying of our booklets means the school can photocopy the booklets as many times as they want for use within the school, year after year. With a very low unit price per booklet (under £4.50 per booklet if you purchase SPAG Level 6 Pack, this drops to under £4 per booklet if you purchase both SPAG packs), our products are exceptional value for this type of product as the school can photocopy the booklets for years to come.

Paper 3: Extended Task:

It assesses the pupil’s ability to produce a relevant text with a variety of sentence structures, a range of punctuation marks and good use of vocabulary.

  • Grammar & Punctuation – A range of grammatical structures is used to vary the focus of sentences and to express subtleties of meaning, e.g. secure control of phrases and clauses within complex sentences; evidence of deliberate control of verbs, e.g. placement, forms (including modals) and complex verb phrases. Management of constructions to support purpose, e.g. impersonal constructions, infinitives to convey formality, fronted adverbials for emphasis. An appropriate range of punctuation is used effectively and precisely to support clarity, e.g. effective use of internal sentence punctuation.
  • Text Structure & Organisation – The structure of the text is controlled, showing links between paragraphs in a variety of ways, e.g. causal or thematic linkage, deliberate repetition, linking pronouns, adverbials or text connectives. Paragraphs are varied and managed in ways that support the structure of the whole text, e.g. the single sentence paragraph to secure an argument; movement of focus from the general to the specific. Openings and endings are generally effective in framing the response. Within paragraphs, there is evidence of cohesive devices to support structure such as contrast and repetition. Effective reference chains avoid repetitive subjects.
  • Appropriacy & Vocabulary – The text is adapted to suit the style of presentation e.g. letter, report, advertisement etc. and content is well-shaped to suit the style. Vocabulary choices are ambitious, yet precise, appropriate and purposeful, achieving suitable tone.

What is the new Spelling, Punctuation & Grammar Test?

The new Key Stage 2 English grammar, punctuation and spelling test will assess elements of levels 3-5 & level 6 of the current National Curriculum for English, as defined in the test framework. There are two test papers in the new spelling, punctuation and grammar test for the Levels 3-5 test and three test papers in the Level 6 test . The main paper (Paper 1) is a test of grammar and punctuation. This is a 45-minute test and requires pupils to answer approximately 46 questions. For some questions pupils must supply up to four correct answers in order to secure one mark. This is a test not only of knowledge but also of accuracy. The smaller paper (Paper 2) is the spelling paper and consists of 20 sentences, each with a missing word. The teacher reads out the sentence and the pupil writes down the word. The extended task is only in the Level 6 test and assesses the pupil’s ability to produce a relevant text with a variety of sentence structures, a range of punctuation marks and good use of vocabulary.
